The Music

Here Eat This on Spotify & Jango

The Number One Album with two Platinum Auddy Award winning songs is the debut album from Eat This. It has 11 songs with 10 self penned tunes written by founder member Cliff Wright. Three of the songs are co-written. The songs range in style from Rock, Acoustic Rock through a Celtic vibe and a hint Psychedelia. Check out the excellent review in Classic Rock Magazine.

The opening song 'If you've got the Guts' is an up-tempo Rock track which has an excellent  bass line created & played by Phil Spalding, this added with former ‘Ruts’ and ‘Dirty StrangersPaul Fox's guitar solo definitely echoes The Who of the Keith Moon Era, Robin Guy plays thunderous Keith Moon like drums to this punchy memorable Platinum Auddy Award winning  song.

In contrast to Guts, ‘My Love’ started out essentially as an acoustic guitar song, it has a more laid back feel with the opening drum pattern programmed by Paul Mulvey. The sax is played by Simon Taylor, with open runs played on the Piano by Colin Towns which perhaps, adds a jazz vibe (Nice!), Bass Guitar & Drums are superbly played by Phil Spalding and Ian Thomas respectively. Backing vocals are from Kathy Samuel and Suzi O'List who has sung with Spandau Ballet , the Eurythmics & Queen to name but a few.

‘Cold Coffee & Tears is a duet which is lyrically a black comedy and features a guest vocal appearance from Angie Brown. Cliff first met Angie when he managed The Dirty Strangers whom Angie sang backing vocals for on their debut album. Angie has gone on to success as a solo artist and has sung lately with the Happy Mondays. A Diva of Dub Angie pursues a solo career on the Club scene around the world. It could be said that C.C.&T has a country twinge with BJ Cole on pedal steel guitar and once again has the dynamic duo of Phil & Ian on Bass & Drums with former Dirty Stranger Scott Mulvey on Keyboards & Banjo. Fiddle is played by Bob Loveday formerly with Van Morrison and currently with Bob Geldof. The song, another Platinum Auddy Award winner is up on MySpace and appears to be a surprise favourite from the album.

One Night Stand

Has a Bo Diddley feel with an up-tempo Reggae-esque chorus, the solo's are played by Simon Taylor (sax). With the late ex Dirty Strangers and Ruts Paul Fox guitarist playing the guitar solo. Contributions on keyboards from Scott Mulvey with Bass and Drums from Phil Spalding and Ian Thomas.

What

The first of the three co-written songs, this one written with Phil Spalding. This song is lyrically a bit of an acid trip which questions how the good Lord Jesus might fair if he were to find himself resurrected in the present time. Whilst getting by, it suggests that J of N may not fare so well and slip into a lifestyle totally alien to a previous interpretation of his existence. This song was originally recorded at the ‘Esselle Beat Factory’ in Brighton with Phil Spalding playing drums, though when recording was resumed at Bernie Tormés Barn Room studios Ruts drummer Dave Ruffy wanted to play on the song and did a fine job not taking anything away from Phil, he did a great job too!! Bernie’s Mrs Lisa Valder plays violin with Janie Price on Cello.

Tattered & Torn

A song which has it's roots firmly based in 'Who' territory. It features a blistering guitar solo by the greatly underrated former ‘Gillan’ & Ossie Osbourne guitarist Bernie Tormé. John Entwhistlesque bass guitar by Phil Spalding and drums from Ian Thomas.

Norwegian Wood

Written by John Lennon & Paul McCartney

What can be said about this song?? a masterpiece of music & verse by the very best modern day song writers, the guys hope it's an honest and worthy version of the song. The arrangement has been slightly extended but not messed with too much or dishonoured. It features a guest appearance on Bass guitar by Blind Frank Melonhead of ‘The Split Knee Loons’ and the Indian instrument made famous by Rikhi Ram, a Swar Sangam is played by Sam Harley. Backing vocals are capably supplied once again by Kathy Samuel & Suzi O'List.

You’re Breaking My Heart

Affectionately known by the guys as Yer Busting My Balls along with the previous song this is the band in acoustic mode and has Flugel Horn & Trumpets played by Martin Drover lending a Tijuana Brass Burt Baccarrach feel to this acoustic blues song. Keyboards by Ex Ian Gillan band member turned screen score composer Colin Towns.

Finty McGinty

This song was written out of an idea and some lyrics and a melody Cliff had kicking around.  The second of the co-writes with Bob Loveday and Paul Brennan, Paul set up a rhythm with the Bodhran and then used the drone from the Uilleann Pipes along with whistles. Cliff spanked the guitar ‘Pinball Wizard’ Pete Townshend style while Bob Loveday played brilliant Fiddle incorporating a hook Cliff had tried on guitar but which worked better on Fiddle. Bob expanded on that with aplomb and all that was left was for Paul to play the whistles and Colin Towns to play his Magic Organ and produce some angels.

When The Penny Drops

What can be said about this song..... Two fingers up to a junkie prostitute, an acknowledgement that things ain't what they could be and that there's a strong chance they could get a lot worse. A doffing of the cap to those who lost their lives in the World Trade Centre's demise. and the Na na na's harking to the end of Hey Jude???? "ask me one on sport". CW with the one take masters in action again Ian & Phil who was moved to tears at the end of recording this one!!

No Respect

The final co-write was written with Scott Mulvey. Another acid trip lyrically with a shot that takes out one of history’s leading arseholes a the end of the song. "A one take guitar solo I'm proud to say" recorded on Larry's 4 track at the ‘Den of iniquity’ and transferred magically to Pro-tools by Bernie. Larry does a perfect impersonation of Lord Olivier’s "Is it safe?" while Chas does his Robert De Nero 'You talkin' t' me? with the chip fryer in the background. Janie Price on Cello, her bowing arm nearly fell off by the end of this one!! Paul Mulvey set up the automated drum pattern heard at the beginning of the song.

This somewhat mad song ends up with one of the worlds leading arseholes being shot whilst giving a speech or three at a fun fair with the Semper Fidelis March blasting away in the background. The march which was written in 1889 by John Philip Sousa (1854-1932) takes its title from the motto of the U. S. Marine Corps: Semper Fidelis -- Always Faithful. It was dedicated to those who inspired it - the officers and men of the United States Marine Corps. In Sousa's own words: "I wrote Semper Fidelis one night while in tears, after my comrades of the Marine Corps had sung their famous hymn at Quantico." It became one of his most popular marches, and Sousa considered it his best march, musically speaking. According to Sousa, Semper Fidelis is one of the five most effective street marches. The others are The Thunderer, National Emblem, Washington Post, and High School Cadets.

New Live Studio album ‘Up Yours’ was released 0n 15th May 2014. Recorded at ICC studios and Mastered by Chris Kimsey at Olympic Studios is an eclectic stab at the punk era, with a mix of original songs and some classics. The ‘Warts n All’ album, Produced by Phil Spalding, was recorded and mixed in 32 hours harking back to the recording ways of old.

3rd Studio album from Eat This on hold ‘The Cytherea House Rules’ is more than halfway done and will have more self penned tunes from founder member Cliff Wright. The album is being co-Produced by Phil Spalding and has been, so far, recorded at Barnroom Studios by Bernie Tormé.

The album has a somewhat harder edge to it than the 1st and sees the band reunite with two of it’s original line up Alan Clayton singing co lead Vocals and Mark Harrison pounding the skins on the stonking ‘Too Much Too Soon’. Mark also played drums on ‘Walk Away’ before disappearing back to Africa where he now lives. The album will have a few melodic ballads and has a lyrical hard edge that may not please some and may even offend others, but what the heck you have to live a little and this is ART!!! Cliff plans to be back in the studio to do some overdubs and maybe even a couple of mixes. But for the time being he’s writing  and working on getting  enough songs to finish the project. Other songs recorded so far are : ‘She likes Leather’, Wichser/Selbstver-Führer, SJW, Poverty, Bed of Nails. That’s about all for now but there will be MORE TO FOLLOW....
